Kirk Karwoski

Kirk Karwoski, affectionately known in the powerlifting community as "Captain Kirk," is celebrated as one of the most formidable squatters in the history of the sport. His unparalleled strength, unwavering dedication, and significant contributions to powerlifting have rightfully earned him a place in the Metal Militia Hall of Fame.

Karwoski's illustrious career is highlighted by his dominance in the squat discipline. He achieved a monumental equipped squat of 455 kg (1,003 lbs) in the 125 kg weight class during the 1995 USPF Senior Nationals, a record that still stands at the time of writing this . This feat was preceded by his legendary training session where he squatted 1,000 lbs for two repetitions, a performance that has become iconic in powerlifting circles.

Beyond his individual accomplishments, Karwoski's influence extended through his collaborations and mentorships. He trained alongside Jeff McVicar in Maryland for many years, serving as a valuable training partner and contributing to the development of fellow lifters. His commitment to the sport and his peers exemplifies the ethos of the Metal Militia.

Karwoski's accolades include six IPF World Championships and seven USPF National Championships, underscoring his consistent excellence on both national and international stages .
